When serverless technologies were first introduced, the promises of infinite scalability and low costs attracted a lot of interest from the industry. Many companies chose to experiment with serverless functions and serverless storage. But with new technologies also come new problems. If you start using serverless for everything, you might find out that it is really hard to manage and test a fractured landscape. Moreover, serverless technologies tend to be cheap at first but become increasingly more expensive as the number of requests increase, even up to the point that it is more expensive than just running servers. But maybe the biggest issue is application state: how can you share data amongst serverless functions if the function itself is inherently stateless?
In this webinar, you will be introduced to the history and future of serverless. We will talk about the types of serverless technologies that are available and implement a simple example application. From there we will see what types of problems you might encounter while developing serverless applications. Lastly, we will discuss the future of serverless and talk about general trends in serverless technologies that might help us solve the issues that we found.
