The Sustainability Startathon Country Round is a pre-event to the Annual ASEAN-China-India Youth Leadership Summit held in Singapore. The ASEAN-China-India Youth Leadership Summit 2024 addresses the most pressing sustainability challenges of our time.
The Sustainability Startathon (June - August): Held across 12 countries, this is a team-based challenge. Only the winning teams will be offered the opportunity to advance to the Grand Finals in Singapore and win amazing prizes! Spread across 8 weeks, The Sustainability Startathon: Country Rounds will include 3 stages: masterclasses, a Qualifying Round, and the Country Finals.
The top 3 teams per country (180 youths in total across the ACI region) will be invited for a full scholarship to Singapore for the 6-day ACI Youth Leadership Summit, where they will compete in the Grand Finals of the Sustainability Startathon.
This year’s theme is “Prioritizing and Integrating AI To Build a Sustainable & Resilient City”, focusing on three pillars: Air Quality, Waste Management, and Energy Demand. This is a regional platform designed for passionate and dedicated young leaders to explore and develop their business ideas addressing the goals of UNSDG Goals 7 and 11.
AI plays a big role in making urbanization smarter by creating tools to navigate challenges and fostering the adoption of approaches to making Singapore a smart and sustainable city.
In addition to prioritizing AI, we strongly encourage participants to explore the use of blockchain technology in their projects. The BGA (Blockchain for Good) track, inspired by the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals, seeks to identify and reward innovative projects that use blockchain to address critical global issues.
By incorporating blockchain, you can enhance your solutions' transparency, security, and efficiency, whether it's for smart cities, waste management, or energy demand. Aligning with the BGA track contributes to sustainable development and increases your chances of making a significant social impact. Consider leveraging blockchain technology to drive meaningful change and create a better future for all.
This year's competition focuses on driving the importance of using AI and Blockchain to develop business solutions and strategies in areas of SDG 7 and SDG 11.

-How might we implement and encourage effective waste management strategies in Singapore, including prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse, to foster a cleaner environment and healthier communities?
-How might we implement innovative urban farming and tree-planting initiatives in urban areas to contribute to the Singapore Green Plan 2030 while enhancing biodiversity and food resources?
SDG7:
-How might we ensure that energy efficiency becomes a priority for households, communities, and industries in Singapore, fostering a culture of sustainable energy consumption?
How might we promote the widespread adoption of renewable and clean energy technologies among different sectors and industries in Singapore to ensure its transition towards a sustainable energy landscape?
